The sun is so into hide and seek lately. You picked up your favorite Amble on a sunny morning, only to be caught in a downpour on your way back home. Fret not, you can keep your shoes safe by learning how to deal with the rainy season. We provide you some tips on prevention and cure to abundance of water coming to your footwear.

Waterproofing Treatment

Waterproof your shoes with mink oil (may darken the color of the leather), a wax-based polish (light protection), or a specialty waterproofing compound (heavier protection). Looking for mink oil? Cololite Mink Oil is available at our webstore. To apply it, take some of the oil using a sponge (you can use soft cloth as well). Apply the oil to the leather in rotating motion, then let the oil absorbs well to the leather for 15 - 20 minutes (direct sunlight will help).

Soaking Wet, What to Do?

Act quick. Stuff them with crumpled-up newspaper or a small towel to draw out the moisture. Replace the paper/towels periodically as they get saturated. Let it dry slowly, away from direct heat as it can dry out and crack the leather. Before they're entirely dry, insert cedar shoe trees to make sure they dry out evenly and maintain their shape.

Jumped in The Puddles, Got Salt Stain

Remove the stain as quickly as possible by lightly applying a mixture of 2/3 water, 1/2 vinegar with a rag, wiping off with clean damp rag, and drying with a towel.

Shine your shoes after you buy them and before you wear them. Shine them regularly for as long as you own them. Apply shoe lotions regularly as well.
